Ubuntu Linux Versions Release Cheat Sheet. Ubuntu, the Debian-based Linux free OS by Canonical Ltd, follows a semi-annual release schedule. The version numbers are based off the year and the month of release. Future releases, however, may opt not to follow this naming convention.
Ubuntu releases after the releases of GNOME and X.Org. This gives Ubuntu the edge of having both included in its releases. LTS (Long Term Support) versions are those that are provided longer tech support (five years) with the included fresh OS updates. The Ubuntu code names are also based off the combination of an adjective and an animal name (e.g., “Feisty Fawn”).
Ubuntu Support
Ubuntu Supports both the Desktop and the Server versions. Releases with two support dates include the first for Desktop, the latter for Servers.

Version End of Life
Whenever an Ubuntu version reaches its end-of-life date, its repositories (installers and files) are taken-off the Ubuntu servers and also the mirrors. If anyone desires to download the old and outdated repositories, the old Ubuntu release site should still have them.
